About Alex
A graduate of the UNC- Chapel Hill School of Business, Alex began his real estate career in 1973. Since that time he has continued to enhance his skills for client service. In 1978, he completed post- baccalaureate courses in accounting and earned the Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA). Having been involved in property remodeling, he sat for and passed the NC General Contractor’s Licensing exams.
Within the New Bern area, and supported by membership in the Neuse River Region Association of REALTORS® Alex has affiliated with Century 21 Zaytoun Raines. (Each office is independently owned and operated.) The affiliation is limited to real estate brokerage activities in that area. Non-brokerage activities, such as HOA consulting and property leasing, are not part of the Century 21 affiliation.
Zoning, being an essential element to commercial property value, Alex performed independent research in City & Regional Planning. The effort has resulted in numerous positive re-zoning outcomes for clients in the counties of: Wake, Caldwell, and Catawba.
Alex’s real estate services include providing Home Owner Associations a review of their Budgets and Future Funding needs. He is uniquely positioned to provide analysis and advice as a result of his business and accounting education, his experience as a contractor, and his experience as a property manager of home owner associations.
An unpaid public outreach was made by writing the real estate feature of the week for the Hickory Daily Record. The properties featured were always other agent’s listings- never one of his own. The feature ran every weekend for 18 years, ending in August 2014.
Civic & Association involvement has included: ROTARY, the Chamber of Commerce, the REALTOR Association, and the local Home Builder’s Association.
Board and Commission service has included: the Upper Catawba River Riparian Buffer Committee; the Land Use Development Review Board; and the now defunct Hickory Subdivision Review Board .
Alex’s sports interest is boating. Alex served as 2012 Commodore for the Peninsula Yacht Club on Lake Norman and, as Past Commodore, serves in an advisory role for the Fleet committee. He has a boating related dotcom (www.yachtafun.com ) and has been published in the magazine Latitudes and Attitudes, Cruising Outpost, Southwinds, and others.
The Gemini catamaran “Yacht A Fun” is the base of operations for his travel articles and activities as a USCG licensed Captain. The vessel’s home port is New Bern, NC.
